Primary School Conversion at Raynsford Academy
Project Value: £1.8m | Client: Raynsford Academy

Overview
As part of Central Bedfordshire Council’s ‘Schools for the Future’ plan, Raynsford Academy had been earmarked to convert from a lower school into a primary, and expand the school roll. PCMS Design was asked to achieve the delivery of two additional classrooms plus ancillary rooms to act as a therapy area and studio. Our practical design solution was a free-standing block, with the rooms laid out in the form of a ‘cube’ around central circulation spaces, and a covered canopy to link to the main school. The project also included external improvements, with a new MUGA and expanded car park. Sustainability in design and specification formed the basis of this project: the classroom block has a green roof, grey water recycling, rainwater harvesting, solar panels and a Ground Source Heat Pump.
